Oct. 15, 1999 Submitted by Bob Spargalo
September 30, 1999 Vince Wood of Moreno Valley, CA, has become the third person in American Bowling Congress history to roll a sanctioned 900 three-game series. He accomplished this feat September 29 as part of the Vegas Express Mixed League at Cadillac Bowl in Moreno Valley, 20 miles east of Riverside.

"It felt great, I didn't believe it until everyone started cheering and hugging me," said Wood, whose team-mates include both his mother Loretta and father William. "I was in the pocket all night and just kept going through the same motion."

Wood, 20, joins Jeremy Sonnenfeld and Tony Roventini as the only bowlers to roll an ABC-approved 900 series. Sonnenfeld rolled the first perfect series February 2, 1997 at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, NE, also at the age of 20. Roventini became the first left-hander to roll a 900 series on November 9, 1998 at Classic Lanes in Greenfield, WI.

Wood's three consecutive 300 games brought his career ABC-approved total to 16. The full-time student, who turns 21 October 13, currently holds a 237 average and has 11 career 800 series with 842 as his previous high.

Wood recently placed sixth in the all events category at the 1999 ABC Tournament in Syracuse, NY. He has also appeared twice in the Intercollegiate Bowling Championships as a member of the California State University-Fullerton squad.

Speaking of 300's... Petesy Wray bowl a 300 in the CAW Local 444 Mixed League at the Super Bowl on Friday Jan 8/98. She is sanctioned through both ABC & WIBC. Bowling for Tec. Service in the 8 team merchant's league at Tec Lanes. Steve followed up with 192 and 220 for a 709 series!

Congratulations to John Matassa for obtaining his first 300.  John's memorable day came Dec. 22nd at Empire Lanes. John seemed to be very cool and collected in his thoughts, under pressure of the 300 game. He qualifies for our Century award as well.
Also, on the same day, Sid Scott does it again with a 299. Sid was happier with this 299 than he was with his last 300 game, I think it's because he doesn't have a 299 ring yet, and it's hard to throw and try to leave 1 pin up.
