Jenny Boismier, 20, has been named the Young American
Bowling Alliance's (YABA) 1998 International youth leader of the year for her outstanding
service and commitment to the local youth leader program. This is the first time a
Canadian has received this honour and with it comes a $2000 scholarship. She will
also serve as a member on the YABA board for a two-year period.The second-year University of Windsor student has been bowling since she was nine years old. She currently bowls out of Rose Bowl Lanes in the club 240 youth program, as well as the Shoppers Drug Mart Junior Travelling Classic league, where she serves as its secretary. For the past five years, she has been an active youth leader, and has served as a delegate to the Essex County Junior Bowling Association Board of Directors for the past three years. She became a youth leader secretary in the 1995-96 season and held that position for two years. During the past season she has served as its president and has contributed to the sport in a variety of ways, including assisting at the local association's annual tournaments, organizing youth leader tournaments, setting up tournament schedules for other youth leaders, and conducts monthly meetings to keep everyone informed. Jenny was a gold medal winner in the Canadian Tenpin Federation's (CTF) Provincial tournament held in march and represented Southern Ontario in the CTF's National Youth.Championships in Vancouver in may. She won a gold medal in both the team and singles tournaments, and a silver medal in all events. Her career highs include a 178 average, 279 game, and 715 series. She will receive her award at YABA's International Workshop which is being held in Atlanta, Georgia, in August. |
